These talks were from the October 2009 General Conference and I encourage everyone to read/watch it online if you have not, or to do it a second time... Their words made a strong impact on me and I would like to make a resolution to read my scriptures more regularly this year to put my feelings into action and not make waist of the sacrifices made by so many people in the past to give me the blessings I enjoy. This time of year really makes me grateful for not just Jesus Christ, but my family and friends and all those who lived before me who have enriched my life.

Joseph Smith—Prophet of the Restoration

Elder Tad R. Callister
Of the Seventy

Yes, Joseph Smith did see angels and visions—because he was the instrument in God’s hands to restore the same Church of Jesus Christ as existed in primitive times—all of its powers as well as all of its doctrines.

Yet sorrowfully, on occasion, some are willing to set aside the precious gospel truths restored by Joseph Smith because they get diverted on some historical issue or some scientific hypothesis not central to their exaltation, and in so doing they trade their spiritual birthright for a mess of pottage. They exchange the absolute certainty of the Restoration for a doubt, and in that process they fall into the trap of losing faith in the many things they do know because of a few things they do not know. There will always be some seemingly intellectual crisis looming on the horizon as long as faith is required and our minds are finite, but likewise there will always be the sure and solid doctrines of the Restoration to cling to, which will provide the rock foundation upon which our testimonies may be built.

Safety for the Soul

Elder Jeffrey R. Holland
Of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles

I want it absolutely clear when I stand before the judgment bar of God that I declared to the world . . . that the Book of Mormon is true.

...Later, when actually incarcerated in the jail, Joseph the Prophet turned to the guards who held him captive and bore a powerful testimony of the divine authenticity of the Book of Mormon.8 Shortly thereafter pistol and ball would take the lives of these two testators.

As one of a thousand elements of my own testimony of the divinity of the Book of Mormon, I submit this as yet one more evidence of its truthfulness. In this their greatest—and last—hour of need, I ask you: would these men blaspheme before God by continuing to fix their lives, their honor, and their own search for eternal salvation on a book (and by implication a church and a ministry) they had fictitiously created out of whole cloth?

Never mind that their wives are about to be widows and their children fatherless. Never mind that their little band of followers will yet be “houseless, friendless and homeless” and that their children will leave footprints of blood across frozen rivers and an untamed prairie floor.Never mind that legions will die and other legions live declaring in the four quarters of this earth that they know the Book of Mormon and the Church which espouses it to be true. Disregard all of that, and tell me whether in this hour of death these two men would enter the presence of their Eternal Judge quoting from and finding solace in a book which, if not the very word of God, would brand them as imposters and charlatans until the end of time? They would not do that! They were willing to die rather than deny the divine origin and the eternal truthfulness of the Book of Mormon.

For 179 years this book has been examined and attacked, denied and deconstructed, targeted and torn apart like perhaps no other book in modern religious history—perhaps like no other book in any religious history. And still it stands. Failed theories about its origins have been born and parroted and have died—from Ethan Smith to Solomon Spaulding to deranged paranoid to cunning genius. None of these frankly pathetic answers for this book has ever withstood examination because there is no other answer than the one Joseph gave as its young unlearned translator. In this I stand with my own great-grandfather, who said simply enough, “No wicked man could write such a book as this; and no good man would write it, unless it were true and he were commanded of God to do so.”

I testify that one cannot come to full faith in this latter-day work—and thereby find the fullest measure of peace and comfort in these, our times—until he or she embraces the divinity of the Book of Mormon and the Lord Jesus Christ, of whom it testifies. If anyone is foolish enough or misled enough to reject 531 pages of a heretofore unknown text teeming with literary and Semitic complexity without honestly attempting to account for the origin of those pages—especially without accounting for their powerful witness of Jesus Christ and the profound spiritual impact that witness has had on what is now tens of millions of readers—if that is the case, then such a person, elect or otherwise, has been deceived; and if he or she leaves this Church, it must be done by crawling over or under or around the Book of Mormon to make that exit. In that sense the book is what Christ Himself was said to be: “a stone of stumbling, . . . a rock of offence,”a barrier in the path of one who wishes not to believe in this work. Witnesses, even witnesses who were for a time hostile to Joseph, testified to their death that they had seen an angel and had handled the plates. “They have been shown unto us by the power of God, and not of man,” they declared. “Wherefore we know of a surety that the work is true.”

We need to put her in this "grandma's angel" onsie more often...She really was the biggest angel last night and all day.

All the mirrors in the house look just like this...Tate can't keep her hands off them- No one makes her laugh as much as she does. We decided to keep this mirrror on the ground in her room instead of hanging it cause she loves it so much.

Am I the only one who has a bar that looks like it came out of an I SPY book???

So we were cleaning up today and just had to laugh at how ridiculously messy it gets so fast... everything from coupons for a car wash to veggie wash was on our bar... go ahead and have some fun looking for the following items: Shredder spikes made of cardboard, buckeye nuts, breast pump parts, hawaiian cups, paint brush, Ipod, scriptures, lighter, hemp cord, clippers... do you spy any other items? Someone else please tell me your house ends up like this sometimes... most of the girls I know around here always seem to have their homes so immaculate.

O-H-I-O !

Here I am at my very first OSU football game. It was perfect weather, surprisingly, and it was a great game to watch. We had a lot of fun.
great seats huh? we're so far back you can see more wall than fans behind us. This is one of just a few minutes we got to sit... the student section likes to stand for the whole game.

Palmyra Trip

We decided to do a quick trip to Palmyra, Ny to celebrate Beau getting through yet another finals week. I had initially taken the days off so that we could maybe move but we never did find anything... perhaps we should just accept that we will be in this tiny box for 2 more years :)
We would like to maybe visit NY city, Washington D.C., and Chicago while we are living in the midwest but for now we went where our budget could afford... its nice to do outdoor stuff as well as church historical sites because its fun and free! It was a good time to come too, because the weather was beautiful and it was only 2 days prior to when Joseph Smith himself had been led to this very hill 186 years ago.

In The Sacred Grove

Isn't is beautiful?

Beau was happy to catch a break after little sleep and a long drive... Tatum, however, was wiiiiide awake! :) She loved walking around- she had a smile on her face the whole time...I wonder if she knew she was somewhere special.

Best Friends

Tatum got to have Alli Beckstrom over the other day, and as you can tell from the clip, she certainly enjoys her company. Alli likes to use her 3 month advantage to take Tatum's toys and literally walk all over her and Tatum loves every minute of it :). I learn from Alli what I have to look forward to since she's just a step before Tatum....the latest?...Baby proofing. That girl gets around.

You're cool beau...he ran up to this spot and back down to us(those specks in the bottom left) about 4 times... good workout
old old bridge...a new one is built over it now

so green and lush here
The thinker... depends on the day :) jk beau
all the trees grow on the sides of rocks like this, its so cool
dippin her feet in the water
Tatum finally fell asleep. Everyone we passed kept making comments on how happy she was.
See the turtle? it has a long tail
"Cedar Drip"... the water is low this time of year... normally this is the most flowing waterfall.

For Labor Day weekend we went up to Hocking Hills for some hiking and camped for a night with the Hayslips... Tatum's first camping experience and she loved it! We were worried cause she woke us up about every hour the night before but she did great. The Hayslips are always doing something fun, its nice to spend time with them.
